Loan Period, Overdue Fines & Renewals (For Students):

  • Circulating materials are lent out for 2 weeks (plus a three day grace period). When you check out a book make sure you are told the due date and that it is stamped inside the book. There is a $0.25 fine for each day an item is overdue, up to $15.00 per each book. (Reference books, Audio / Visual materials, and Course Reserve do not circulate)
  • Fines are temporarily suspended on days when the library is closed.
  • If you have accrued library fines of $15.00 or more, your borrowing privileges are suspended until your fine is brought below this amount.
  • All fines must be paid directly to a Library Staff member unless otherwise instructed.
  • If a book becomes overdue by 3 months or more, you will receive notification that a replacement charge has been added to your tuition bill. If you return a 3 month overdue the charge will be removed from you're account, but you will still be responsible for any associated overdue fines (up to $15.00 per book).
  • If you have a replacement charge added to your account a hold will be placed on your school account until the book is returned or the replacement charge is paid.
  • The library will attempt to send you a notice exclusively through email when materials become overdue during the library's hours of operation. Notices will NOT be sent on weekends or staff holidays.

Loan Period, Overdue Fines & Renewals (For Alumni):

  • Alumni who have successfully graduated from The Boston Conservatory are entitled to borrowing privileges. The loan period and fine schedule and all other applicable policies are the same as for current students. (See above.)
  • If you receive a replacement charge and/or fines of $15 or more, your borrowing privileges will be suspended. A hold will be placed on your student account. This hold will prevent you from accessing your diploma and transcripts.

Overdue notices are only a courtesy. It is your sole responsibility to keep track of your due dates and return or renew books on time. If you do not receive a notice for any reason, you are still responsible for your overdue materials and expected to settle any fines accrued.

Renewals

There are 3 ways to renew your books:

  • In Person: Stop by the Circulation Desk and ask to renew your loans. You do not have to bring the materials with you—by requesting a renewal you acknowledge that you have the item in your possession.
  • By Email: Reply to your emailed overdue notice and request a renewal. This service is available Monday –Friday, from 9:00am to 5:00pm only, and not available on weekends or days when the library is closed.  Your book has not been renewed until you receive an emailed response verifying your new due date and update to your patron record.
  • By Phone: Call 617-912-9131 during our hours of operation.

PLEASE NOTE: By requesting a renewal, you verify that the loan is in your possession. If you believe you have lost a library book please speak with a librarian immediately. The library reserves the right to reject renewal requests. This may occur if a patron has outstanding account issues or if the material has been requested by another patron.

Library registration: All students, faculty, alumni, and staff must have a patron record and school ID card showing proof of affiliation in good standing with The Boston Conservatory. No one is permitted to check out library items on anyone else's patron record except their own.
